One Piece

One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series composed and represented by Eiichiro Oda. Since July 1997, it has been serialized in Shueisha's shonen manga magazine Weekly Shnen Jump, and as of March 2023, its individual chapters were collected into 105 tankbon volumes. The story follows the undertakings of Monkey D. Luffy and his group, the Straw Cap Privateers, where he investigates the Excellent Line looking for the legendary fortune known as the "One Piece" to turn into the following Lord of the Privateers.

After being adapted into a festival film by Production I.G and an anime series by Toei Animation that began airing in 1999, the manga gave rise to a media franchise. In addition, Toei has produced thirteen television specials, one original video animation, and fourteen animated feature films. A trading card game and numerous video games are two examples of the media and merchandise that have been developed by a number of businesses. Viz Media and Madman Entertainment licensed the manga series for an English-language release in Australia and the United Kingdom, respectively. Before the license was revoked and Funimation acquired the anime series in 2007, it was licensed by 4Kids Entertainment for an English-language release in North America in 2004.

The art, characters, world-building, storytelling, and humor of One Piece have all received praise. It has won numerous awards and is considered one of the best manga ever by readers, reviewers, and critics. As of August 2022, it had over 516.6 million duplicates available for use in 61 nations and areas around the world, making it the smash hit manga series ever, and the top rated comic series imprinted in book volume. The manga has set publishing records with several volumes, including the highest initial print run of any book in Japan. The Guinness World Record for "the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author" was set by One Piece in 2015 and 2022. It was the best-selling manga for a total of eleven years, from 2008 to 2018, and is the only manga to have sold more than one million copies in all of its over 100 published tankbon volumes and to have had an initial print run of more than three million copies continuously for more than ten years. The only manga whose volumes have topped Oricon's weekly comic chart every year since 2008 is One Piece.
